Chapter 28
The hits just kept on coming.
Claire had spent the previous evening with Molly going over the photographs sheâd taken of her motherâs usual room, but frustratingly, nothing, in particular, seemed to ring a bell as a potential hiding place.
It seemed that there was little they could do other than wait for Shay Brady to vacate, which according to Lily wouldnât be till the end of next week.
Until Molly could locate the key to the deposit box, there was nothing anyone could realistically do other than keep an eye out for anything further untoward.
And for Claire keep fighting fires as they happened.
Now, upon checking guest registration details of the rooms affected by yesterdayâs water leak, she discovered that one of the evacuated occupants was none other than the VIP influencer. A note from Grant on the reservation stressed that the bill for this particularâs guestâs stay should be complimentary, as per standard hotel policy.
And that was fine, except for the fact that there were three other rooms attached to the same reservation. Helluva of an entourageâ¦
The manager wasnât intent on comping them all surely?
Quickly looking up Naomi Sparks online, Claire saw that âSaturdaySparklesâ seemed like your basic mid-range fashion account, with an equally middling following - most of which was based in England. There was nothing at all travel or hotel-related in her content that warranted a free stay for so many people.
Heck, Sparks had already been here almost a week, and still hadnât posted a single picture of the hotel even!
Claire was now pretty confident that the woman in these images was indeed the one sheâd had to divert from the pool the other day, and was also certain that the younger girl sheâd come across posing for photos in the gardens yesterday, couldnât be one and the same. Still, with all the filtering going on in the online world, it was nigh on impossible to tell what was what.
Regardless, she made a mental note to explore this so-called âstandardâ policy a little further. If the hotel was automatically comping every randomer who rocked up with an iPhone, then theyâd be out of business in no time.
But then she noticed something else in the reservation notes about a fortieth birthday celebration. Which made her recall those elaborate proposal plans she and Lily had talked about before. And which might better explain Grantâs generosity?
Even so, given the level of fuss, Claire had assumed that the guest involved was a VIP in the truest sense, and the upcoming proposal a major affair, a huge deal that would prove equally so for the hotelâs reputation.
And now, as she stood outside Naomi Sparkâs room with a fruit basket and bottle of champagne by way of apology for yesterdayâs inconvenience, if nothing else she was curious to see if her impressions were correct.
âGuest services, hello?â
The door was opened by a blonde woman with a pleasant smile who looked exactly like the one Claire had just been researching.
âMs. Clarke,â she began politely, âClaire Howard, guest relations manager.
